Cecilia & Evan {Wedding Photography}

Cecilia and Evan’s wedding day dawned sunny & hot. Taking place at the Overlook Lodge at Rim River Ranch, the venue is set back from the highway by a long private drive. Indicative of its name, the Overlook Lodge and grounds oversee a beautiful river-filled valley and acres of farm land.

I’ve never seen a bride so involved with all the details of her wedding day. They set up the dinner area and decorated the lodge the evening before. The lodge has a beautiful view of the Tetons.

Bridal Preparation is one of my favorite things to photograph and be involved in. The atmosphere is filled with love and excitement with just a touch of nerves and a whole lot of emotion (and some happy tears!)

I snuck away for a few minutes once the cake arrived to snag some shots of this masterpiece. I loved the theme surrounding their wedding cake and just how natural and beautiful everything looked.

The bride’s floral hair wreath was to die for! I love images of brides with floral wreaths, so you can imagine my happiness when I found out she was wearing one!

Cecilia was so involved in the little details, that as part of the bridal prep, she, along with her bridesmaids wrapped their flowers. The arrangements had been put together and rubber banded, but they put on the finishing wire and tape. What a fun memory this will be for them all!

Time to get in the dress! Mom Melissa, joined the bridesmaids in helping Cecilia get into her dress. And getting all the buttons done up turned out to be a bit of a challenge.

I had to include this shot! Cecilia & Evan had their friend Andrew second shoot the wedding and that part of the balcony was our best friend during the ceremony 🙂

My favorite part of any wedding is when I get to take the bride and groom off on their own and do their formal portraits. I love this alone time that I get to spend with them capturing the essence of their wedding day. But I also think sometimes its a nice break for them too where they can relax a little from all the chaos that reigns on wedding days (even in the calmest of weddings there is always stress) and let them just focus on one another.

Style Guide – Preparing outfits for your session

Not sure what to wear for your pictures and they are tomorrow?!? Been there, felt that way. Instead of getting overwhelmed looking at your closet thinking, “what the heck do we wear?”, check out these easy and quick tips to achieving a look you want:

S&J_Family_01.jpg

COLOR:

  • Don’t be afraid to be color coordinated! It’s okay for you to have the same color on, as long as we don’t make it too matchy-matchy.
  • Don’t be afraid of color itself. Don’t get sucked back into the old trend of all black or white tops with jeans. While this can be an okay starting point, this isn’t 2000. Let’s mix it up a little by:
  • Choose prints and textures mixed with solids. This is my favorite way to mix things up within a couple or family and is so easy to implement.
  • Choose a color that each family member can wear that complements each other.

LAYERS:

  • This is a simple way to change up your look! You can choose a basic bottom and top and use patterns& textures to add variety to the layers you add. Using undershirts, jackets, sweaters, or vests are just some ways to add layers.

ACCESSORIES:

  • Jewelry can add dimension to your outfit. I recommend choosing a necklace that is symmetrical so that you don’t have to worry about it being perfectly aligned.
  • Scarves, bracelets, earrings, belts, hairbands & bows, and even hats are all great ways to bring interest to your clothing and can easily be switched out to alter your look.

Still feel overwhelmed when it comes to chatting about colors, layering, and accessories? Here are some additional examples:

Sage & Rachel {Rexburg Engagement Photographer}

I met this couple through Thumbtack and I absolutely loved working with them. We headed to the hills for their session to take advantage of the beautiful snow and trees up there! Sage was just in town for the weekend to officially propose and take engagement photos. Rachel and Sage were such naturals in front of the camera, I swear I hardly even had to help with posing! And they were up for anything – trekking through mid-calf high snow, braving the cold, and making snow angels!

Haley & Kyler {Rexburg, Idaho Wedding Photographer}

Oh how I loved meeting this bride and groom! You can tell they are just so excited to be married!

Their day was a little hectic – I filled in for their wedding photographer who was injured the night before and unable to make it. I am so glad I was able to help out this photographer – and I would hope someone would do the same for me if I was in that position! It makes me super grateful for the great community of photographers we have here, and I will miss if we ever leave! It was kind of crazy going to the temple and not knowing what my bride & groom really looked like – and knowing they didn’t know me at all!

Rexburg decided to snow like crazy that day, but it was a beautiful day!  Haley’s dress was absolutely stunning, and her bridesmaids dresses were so fun! I am a total sucker for the gray suits the guys were sporting, I love how classy they look.

They were total champs dealing with the cold and snow. It was hard to step back and realize that their photographer had already done bridals and I didn’t need to capture very many for them – I just love working with brides and grooms!

Milo & Kelee {Rexburg Engagement Photographer}

A year or so ago I took some portraits of Milo – a few weeks ago I got to take his & Kelee’s engagement photos! I loved working with them as they braved the bitter cold for their session. They were total troopers and we got great photos!

Philip {Rexburg Portrait Photography}

High school senior Philip brought his faithful canine along to the photo shoot. So fun including his dog in a few of his photos!

Misael {Idaho Falls Portrait Photography}

Misael’s senior portraits were photographed in Idaho Falls – we captured both some urban feel areas as well as nature. It was fun photographing in a new place I haven’t used before!

Jose {Senior Portrait Photography}

We photographed Jose’s portraits in Idaho Falls. He knew exactly where he wanted his basketball photos taken, and it turned out to be the perfect place for them! I also loved using the alleys for his shoot!

Israel {Senior Portrait Photography}

Next up is Israel! He braved some crazy cold weather (like 10 degrees and a bit of wind!) and was the last senior of 2015 I photographed. Thanks Israel for a wonderful session!
